Searching for the softness in the great outdoors

Born and raised in Aberdeen, Mandy had an abundance of spectacular countryside skipping distance from her home. She moved to Glasgow after University and has made it her home for the last 20 years. “Drawing is something that always came naturally to me, but I veered into design, an industry I love, and have gained so much from, but getting back to drawing is where I can really articulate my soul. My work has often been influenced by my design background, applying digital and illustrative styles to past work with bold use of colour, but now I’m more interested in an analog process.”

Mandy’s work is forever curious about the female form and she likes to indulge in colour and often combines these inspirations with her love of the wilderness. “I have focused more recently on landscapes and working in nature to capture the raw atmosphere. The pastels I use are so fragile, the contrast of the rugged scenes I create gives a lovely interaction – It’s finding the soft in something so hard and unwelcoming.”

Ultimately, Mandy Maria hopes to convey some of the beauty and sense of adventure of her surroundings. Bringing a window to where you want to be — somewhere uplifting, light, and calm.
